概要 This study compared scholarly activity before and during the COVID-19 pandemic using PubMed and ClinicalTrials.gov records across multiple health conditions. From January to July 2021, non-COVID clinical trials declined relative to the same period in 2019, while reviews and research articles increased, partly continuing earlier publication trends. Across 23 countries, larger trial declines were associated with stricter Oxford Stringency Index scores. The findings indicate that public-health restrictions disrupted new clinical investigation more than publication output, with potential downstream consequences for treatment development and the balance of research effort.
