| 概要 | This study evaluates how soil conservation policies affect carbon sequestration in agricultural soils in the Central United States. It combines data from the 1992 National Resources Inventory (NRI) with detailed soil and climate information from the SOILS5 database.
These data are incorporated into a biophysical process model calibrated to conditions in the study region. The analysis examines how alternative conservation policies influence soil organic carbon and overall soil quality. Particular attention is given to the effects of reducing soil erosion and retiring land from agricultural production. The results indicate that reducing soil erosion is more effective in increasing soil carbon sequestration than simply removing land from production. The study therefore highlights soil conservation practices as an important tool for both maintaining agricultural productivity and mitigating environmental impacts. Overall, it demonstrates the close relationship between agricultural conservation policy, soil quality improvement, and long-term carbon storage. |
