| 概要 | This study used projection-specific manipulations to explain how dopamine supports the transition from fear to safety during extinction. Omission of an expected aversive event activated ventral tegmental dopamine neurons, and this signal was required for extinction learning and associated molecular changes. Projections to the medial nucleus accumbens shell promoted extinction, whereas projections to medial prefrontal cortex opposed it. The findings reveal that a common midbrain dopamine source can exert opposite effects through distinct pathways, creating a circuit-level switch that determines whether defensive responding is maintained or updated toward safety. |
