概要 This optogenetic study identified when nucleus accumbens shell activity contributes to behavioral flexibility during reversal learning. Neurons were inhibited either while rats selected an action or while they processed feedback. Inhibition during choice had little effect, whereas inhibition during the outcome period reduced reversal errors and increased switching after losses. The results indicate that accumbens shell activity can constrain flexible updating specifically when negative outcomes are integrated, rather than during action selection itself. Precisely timed inhibition revealed a causal window in which this region regulates adaptation to changed contingencies.
