Details | Multicultural festivals are regarded as a useful tool for local communities to showcase their cultural diversity and to strengthen their sense of community. To create an opportunity for students and local communities to learn from ethnic minority students and raise their awareness toward the minority’s cultural identity, a multicultural event, the Language Festival (LF), was organized and held by the authors in collaboration with a group of university students in a small Japanese city. The effects of the LF on the staff and the participants’ experience and perceptions were analyzed based on the post-event questionnaires. This paper examines the practices of the event and explores how the LF can raise diversity awareness in a community. |
