Details | This is a computer-assisted analysis of more than a thousand digital records related to paediatric CT-scans in a hospital in Nagasaki, Japan. The concept was to see if a data-mining system was able to predict the necessaity versus redundancy of a CT scan order for a child. The importance is in reducing unnecessary and possibly hazardous radiation exposure to children. Note: This is a very significant finding which may have a lot of applications in clinical decision-making at hospitals, especially over diagnostic procedures that could have side-effects. |
