概要	Chapter 16, "Waves of Globalization in East Asia: A Historical Perspective" -- If we define "globalization" as the flow of things around the world, then what we now call globalization is not uniquely modern, nor is it merely a phenomenon of the last twentieth century resulting from new technologies and social systems. Rather, it is a process as old as humanity that began from the earliest days of human existence. The difference that makes contemporary globalization special is its unprecedented speed and the intensity of its flow. This book chapter illustrates that the way waves of global or regional idea, institutions, technologies, and people have impacted China, Japan, and Korea, and how people in the three areas responded to them.
