Title Creating a class with the aim of attitude formation for studies at university:
Approaches and methods of cooperative learning
Contribution Type Single Work
Volume, Issue, Page pp.119-135
Details In this era of free college admissions, lack of “motivation to learn” rather than “academic ability” of students, has been identified as a factor in students for transitioning and adjusting to university. In their first year at university, students need to be provided with quality undergraduate teaching, basic skills to work in society, autonomy and independence in learning, problem solving skills, communication skills and leadership skills. Attitudes which need to be formed for university life include the strength to take initiative, be independent, spirit of cooperative learning and community-building in small classes. This paper assesses how undergraduate Teaching Assistants are used, how cooperative learning involving group work is conducted and how that brings about change and growth in students of the first year education class “Introduction to APU.”
