Details This study evaluates alternative policies for controlling atrazine and other triazine herbicides used in corn and sorghum production.
Using CARD’s CEEPES modeling framework, it examines both the environmental benefits and economic costs of different restrictions.
The policies considered include application restrictions, water-quality standards for runoff, a complete atrazine ban, and a ban on all triazines.
The results show that stricter bans can improve water quality but may impose substantially higher economic welfare losses.
The study concludes that targeted, standards-based restrictions can reduce water-quality risks more efficiently while limiting economic costs.
