Item Case Study "Why could China become number 1 in the solar cell?”
Details For environmental sustainability, one way to reduce GHG emissions is to use renewable energies, such as solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and geothermal energies. Especially, solar cell is expected to reduce GHG emissions. However, the solar cell share of Japan rapidly fell from 50% in 2004 to 9% in 2010. On the other hand, China drastically increased the production share of a solar cell to 43% in 2010, and overwhelms foreign countries. Why could China become number 1 in the solar cell? What are the possible strategies of Chinese solar cell companies after reaching the top at Photovoltaic (PV) business recession? This is the important research question to understand Photovoltaic (PV) business and also to enhance PV business to reduce the GHG emission. The purpose of this case is to understand the new driving force of remarkable progress of Chinese competitiveness.
