TITLE: Developing online pedagogies for developing Cultural Intelligence (CQ) in Leadership
Globalization and technological advances are disrupting educational systems everywhere and higher education (HE) institutions need to adapt. Although several theories and models of intercultural competence exist, an integrated approach has not been forthcoming, resulting in a plethora of approaches that may not always translate into a unified training model and application. Likewise, the development of leadership through CQ - which is a soft skill required for our diverse future - still remains to be investigated more comprehensively. The current project continues to expand on a uniquely developed instructional cultural framework (Roux & Suzuki, 2017; Roux et al., 2018, 2019, 2020; Roux, 2021) to develop a learning management system (LMS) to cultivate CQ in higher education and training.
As a result of adjustments following the global pandemic, online learning has accelerated, and its use has become widespread in education and training. To better understand how this learning format may be used to support teaching and training in general, the current project will build on previous work to deepen CQ studies, in particular how it translates into successful leadership practices that can be considered transformative to organisations. For the AY2024, the following aims are set: Most prominently, the use of online tools to support CQ learning in leadership will be explored as thematic content in courses related to training and career development. Specifically, how these tools are used to assess and evaluate learning will be focused on in three areas: (a) educating about plagiarism and the combating thereof; (b) ensuring the control of on-screen activity during test-taking and (c) determining and establishing the boundaries and utility of using AI as an online tool in learning. These areas are at the forefront of responsible and ethical educational practice, and are therefore taken as research goals for year forthcoming.
